SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH OF ST. FATHER NIKOLAI IN BAŠAID

Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Father Nikolai in Bašaid was built in 1833 as a one-nave building with a bell-tower that rises from the front. The portico is composed of four sidewalks topped with tympanum and a frieze ornament, in the form of a triglyph and a metopa. The side facades are broken down into pilasters, with deeper cracks in the form of niches with cassettes. As an architectural accomplishment, the church is joined by a group of churches performed most prominently by a type of engineering project in the service of the Military Border, with small variants in the design of decorative details. The characteristics of the style are mostly found on the western facade in the classicist portrait. Iconostasis, paintings in singing, wall painting are the work of Pavle Simic. Carvings of the iconostasis is a very rich, whimsical and unusual composition of ornaments. In whole,The iconostasis is basically a classicist composition: the architraves are supported by the Corinthian columns, the vases are placed as acrobatics. The painting part of the iconostasis is characterized by a colder color and peace that is visible on the characters, fabrics, restraint of the movement, which are the characteristics of classicism.
The Virgin’s throne depicts the Virgin with Christ. Below the throne there are no icons.
At the Archbishop’s Throne is the icon of St. Save.
Serbian rulers are shown in singing lamperies. In each of the singers there are three figures in the standing position, sv. Prince Lazar, sv. Simeon, and St. Stefan Milutin are in the southern singer, Uros, sv. Stefan Mirotočivi i sv. Stefan Dečanski in the north.
On the high vault there are small compositions, three on each side. On the walls, the compositions are placed in four large rectangular surfaces. On the south side of the vault are: Mercy, the Angel performs Peter out of the dungeon and the Birth of John the Baptist.
On the north side of the vault are: The Birth of the Virgin, Jesus Christ keeps preaching on the mountain, and the Worship of the Virgin. Washing your leg is one of the most beautiful ingredients in originality, a good set, an interesting genre in detail, a prospective perspective and is located on the southern wall. Behind the events in the foreground, the composition is provided diagonally in depth.
On the pillars in the mirror, one woman is a saint in monastic clothes. In the altar there are four wall paintings with the representations of the Holy Fathers in the bishops’ ornaments. On the top is Christ on the throne. On the vault above the sole there is a composition of the Holy Trinity. In the middle are Christ and God the Father. In the corners are gospel characters with symbols. The middle part of the composition is significantly damaged.
The cross on the choir probably belonged to the older iconostasis, since the style of carving and painting carries the characteristics of the works of the 18th century. From the applied art, the gilt silver plated with volumes on the base, vines and laurel leaves, with a flower on a curved handle, leaves and classes that are very fine making the right lines.
