ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH OF ST. GEORGE

The construction of the church began in 1847 and was completed in 1858 and carries the stylistic characteristics of classicalism. It is basically one-walled building, simple architecture and no plastic decoration. On the facade the entrance is marked by shallow pilasters that appear on the very edges as well as on the side facades of the building. The windows are set high and end with a segment port. The belfry of the caustic base is crossed by the lower part of the tympanum, and the edges are also marked with pilasters. On all four sides an hour is built, below which are the openings with segmental blinds. The torso-shaped dome falls on the level of a bell tower.
The altar fell on the main altar “St. George”, is the work of Bertalana Sekelja, an oil on canvas (400 x 200 cm.). On the side altar is the painting “St. Ana teaches the Virgin “, the work of Tana Mora from 1866, oil on canvas 150 x 70 cm (sign. Tán Mor Ferenc 1866).
Mor Tan (Tán Mor, Bečej 1828 – Trieste, 1899). studying in Pest, he chose the right, but he personally attended the studio Miklos Barabaš. He takes an active part in the revolution of 1848. Picture of the scene from Vojvodina life and battles of that period. The remaining works testify to the painter of historical compositions and images of religious content that he worked throughout his entire life.
